SUMMARY: Quantum isn’t coming; it is here.

Next year is U.N.-proclaimed 2025 the ‘International Year of Quantum Science and Technology’

Why? Because in 1925, Werner Heisenberg developed what we now call “Quantum mechanics, making Quantum mechanics 100 years old next year.

Since then, quantum has entered multiple areas of your life and mine.

Here with me to discuss all of this today is Paul Cadden-Zimansky

Paul Cadden-Zimansky is an Associate Professor of Physics at Bard College.  He has a bachelor’s degree from the Great Books Program of St. John’s College, a master’s degree from the London School of Economics in History and Philosophy of Science earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Northwestern University.  And he is, without a doubt, the smartest guy on this episode.  Welcome Paul.

  • You are already using quantum tech
  • how existing quantum tech helps describe how/why quantum computing is new science, not just a faster traditional computer
  • Describe quantum killer apps as a way to discuss how quantum is different
  • addition to quantum decryption of existing codes, quantum creates the possibility of creating perfect encryption systems to avoid spying/eavesdropping.
